Tuition &
Education

I care about your development

I really do consider myself to be an experienced and insightful music teacher of around 25 years. I have taught peripatetically in schools (up to fifty 1-1 students per week!), am presently a lecturer with a B-Tec College (Bournemouth Academy of Modern Music), have conducted group clinics and learning events, and also have my own private students (many of whom are industry professionals and some of whom are now teachers themselves). Find out more on the previous page, if you feel. As for your journey...

My philosophy is simple... Learn, repeat, apply and create. My specialities are within the fields of improvisation and also preparing students for performance, audition and graded scenarios. This is not suitable for everybody, so I like to start with the end in mind. If you can be clear on where you want to be, I can show you how to get there. I cannot do the work for you, but I will guide you with my relative experience and show you how to organise and measure your practice. Learning is bespoke, although many have gone before you, your own musical expression may be as unique as your own finger prints... Let's uncover it together?

"Mike’s tuition laid the foundations for my career as a performing musician. His workshops gave me critical experience and education in making music, both as a soloist, and as part of an ensemble. His versatility with styles makes him a fantastic tutor & mentor for players just starting out, or professionals looking to hone their craft."

Elijah Jeffery
